Steve’s birth name is Stephen James Backshall and he was born on born 21 April 1973, in Bagshot, England. Steve embarked on his love for wildlife documentary when he was young because he grew up in an area that is surrounded by rescue animals. Since then he developed a passion for exploring it. He went to Collingwood College in Camberley, but he left when he was in form five and went to attended Brooklands College, in Surrey. After high school, he later went to the University of Exeter to study English and theater studies. In 2020 he earned a master’s degree in bioscience at the Canterbury Christ Church University. Steve loves to explore and toured places where a normal thinking human will never tempt, maybe that’s why he decides to learned martial art when he traveled to Japan. Steve’s speaking ability is very good, he can speak English, Japanese, and Spanish fluently.
He who never makes an effort never risks a failure. Steve failed when he started his career as an explorer. But he didn’t let the failure weigh him down. After his fruitless trip to the rainforest in the western half of New Guinea in 1997, a year later he went to the jungle of Colombia and that’s where he made his first successful wildlife animal documentary. The same year he was called by the National Geographic Channel to work for them as a host, producer, and Presenter of a show called “Adventurer in Residence”.
Five years later, he resigned at National Geographic Channel and went to work at British Broadcasting Corporation(BBC). He works on many shows including The Really Wild Show, Springwatch Trackers, Deadly 60, Lost Land of the Jaguar, Lost Land of the Volcano, and Lost Land of the Tiger among others. He also worked as a reporter at EarthPulse in 2001. He also worked for Sky TV, Discovery TV, and Channel 5.
